BL "Tink" Tysor is an experienced Consultant and Educator for Database Administration, SQL development and Relational Data Modeling with over 34 years of computer experience. Tink has concentrated on DB2 Universal Database for z/OS and LUW since 1994, and has been involved in every aspect of Database Management from Conceptual, Logical and Physical Data Modeling, database creation and maintenance, SQL generation and reviews, SQL Routines development through performance tuning, security, and data recovery. Independent since 2001, Tink concentrates on database education and consulting specializing in data modeling, SQL, DBA, DB2 performance as well as Stored Procedures, User Defined Functions and Triggers. He has performed on-site education at various customer locations in the US. Subjects include: Beginning SQL, Imbedded SQL, Intermediate SQL, Advanced SQL and Performance, DBA, Stored Procedures, and DRDA & DB2 Connect. He consistently receives top scores from students. While partnering with application developers, Tink was responsible for redesigning and converting a hierarchical IMS Claims OLTP database to a relational DB2 database. Through his leadership, this conversion effort resulted in a successful on time delivery, improved response time, and a maintainable database that has accommodated subsequent additional requirement changes with minimal impact. Starting his computer programming career in 1970, Tink was with IBM for 23 years of software development, mostly with military systems. He developed a system that generated threat scenarios to exercise the Safeguard System (a ballistic missile defense system). Tink was lead target motion analysis programmer for the Fire Control System of the Trident Submarine, earning an Outstanding Innovation Award. Tink is on the Editorial Review board for the International DB2 Users Group (IDUG) Systems Journal, was on the IDUG North American Conference Planning Committee for the International DB2 Users Group (IDUG) and is past president of the Southeastern Inter-Relational Database Users Group (SIRDUG). He has spoken often at the North American and European IDUG Conferences, as well as various Regional User Groups. He has authored "Let Cartesian Products be Your Friend - But Proceed With Caution" in the IDUG Solutions Journal - Volume 8 Issue 3, 2001, " Need a Date? Here's DB2's Answer- Using Chronological Data in DB2 Chronological Data Type Formats" in the IDUG Solutions Journal - Volume 11 Issue 3 December 2004, and coauthored the first edition of the IBM Red Book "DB2 for z/OS DM Tools for Database Administration and Change Management" Tink is well versed in the following languages and tools:
